The Pro R’s "out of frame" head pipe catches a lot of heat, but make no mistake: this is the most efficient head pipe design for this engine. We won't bore you with the hardcore engineering math regarding gas wave propagation, cylinder overlap timing, and pressure waves—let's just say Polaris did their homework. But is it perfect? No. It suffers from typical mass-production flaws and was bottlenecked to match a restrictive stock muffler. Polaris did what they could with what they had. We did it better.
Enter the RPM Big Core Head Pipe. Designed as a direct bolt-on upgrade, this pipe retains your stock heat shield and bolts right up to the factory muffler (or any aftermarket muffler designed for the OEM head pipe).
We completely overhauled the flow dynamics to create a smoother, far less restrictive interior than the OEM pipe. We slightly increased the manifold size to perfectly port-match the gasket and cylinder head ports, and stepped up the diameter of the four primary pipes. The two secondary pipes are also larger in diameter but significantly shorter—we eliminated the restrictive factory 2-1 section and incorporated it into our unique 4-2-1 collectors.
By shortening that 2" section, we were able to drastically increase the length of the 3" section, creating a much smoother bend around the frame rail toward the muffler. This tucks the 3" section much tighter to the frame, significantly reducing exposed exhaust pipe and giving you crucial extra tire clearance.
Built tough between a beefy 10mm thick header flange and an OEM-replicated muffler flange, this pipe is ready for anything. We retained the factory O2 sensor location and added a secondary O2 bung for riders running an aftermarket monitor or data logger. Every head pipe includes a fresh set of grade 8 allen head hardware, with optional gaskets available at a discounted price.

With cams and a tune it’s almost a must have, stock header is out of power at 8200 and any motor with cams needs to turn 8800-9200rpm. The rpm header has best average hp from 6800to9200 on the market
Purchased the full system with the sport muffler, amazing! Video doesn’t do it justice at all. Purchase was easy and shipping was fast!! Will definitely do business with RPM again.
Header is great. They sent me the wrong hardware to install. Contacted them the said they would send correct hardware. But asked about another gasket not sure if the other is blown out since there was a gap between head and header wasn’t ran to much but thought it would have been nice gesture with having a ride coming up and having to take it apart again for correct hardware. A lot of money spent for them to worrying about loosing the cost of a gasket.
